PPM: Will stick to party thinking when electing for Speaker and Deputy of Parliament

PPM has said that they would put forth the party thinking when electing the Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the Parliament.

Vice President of PPM and Leader of the PPM Parliamentary Group, Ahmed Shiyam told One Online that he believes the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament would be elected from the MPs representing MDP, as the government wishes.

Shiyam said that despite having experienced people in the parliament, MDP thinking would be to benefit the government more than the Parliament.

He said that PPM Council would discuss and a decision is yet to be made on the electing a Speaker and Deputy Speaker. And when a decision is made, the Parliamentary Group will follow the party decision.

A number of MDP MPs on the new parliament has expressed their interest in becoming the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

MDP Chairperson and MP-elect for West Henveiru constituency, Hassan Latheef said that the opportunity to apply for the positions would be opened with enough time ahead. However, he did not specify a date.
