Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to return to politics after two years away.

Speaking at a press conference of the opposition coalition PPM/PNC, the Vice President of PPM, Ibrahim Shujau said that the former President will be making an address his supporters and the nation at a function this Friday night.

The event entitled "Welcome President Yameen" will be held at 8:30 p.m. at Alimas Carnival area.

Spokesperson of the Opposition Coalition, Heena Waleedh said that after being acquitted by the Supreme Court yesterday, former President Yameen visited the PPM office and met with the senior members of the coalition and the current and former opposition MPs. She said that the former President aims to expand his political activity by visiting the islands and push the current political campaign of the opposition coalition "In Defence of Freedom".

Heena said that the goal of the event on Friday night is for the former President to meet his supporters.
