A request has been made with the Civil Court by the Attorney General's Office to reclaim the land where Newport View is being operated acquire the fees owed to the state by Strada Pvt. Ltd.

A statement issued by the Attorney General’s Office today said that they file suit at the Civil Court to claim the MVR 1,149,271 in rent up to 27 February 2019 from Strada Pvt. Ltd. along with the rent upto the date the land is returned to the state. The statement said that the request also include the clearing and reclaiming the land leased to Strada.

The Attorney General’s Office said that the rent for the land has to be paid to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) before each month according to the agreement made between Strada and the Government. And if the rent is not paid for longer than a month, the agreement will be terminated.

Attorney General’s Office said that a suit was filed to reclaim the land where Strada Pvt. Ltd. runs the Newport View restaurant after the company failed to pay rent since 1 December 2019 and the two cheques for the rent of June and July 2018 was bounced.

Although the government has asked to clear the Newport View land, Strada company has not taken any action to comply.

The Ministry of Planning issued a statement today regarding the matter stating that business is being conducted illegally on that land and so legal action would be taken.
