Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed has departed to Glasgow, Scotland, to take part in the 2021 United Nations climate change conference of parties (COP26).

A tweet sent out by the Parliament today said that the Speaker of the Parliament left the country this morning.

He largest Climate Change Conference this year, COP26, takes place this year from 31 October to 12 November in Glasgow to discuss the climate issues at the highest level.

Speaking on ONE Exclusive on Tuesday, the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Aminath Shauna said that leaders from 20 countries are set to join COP26.

The Maldives is set to raise concerns regarding the major effects of climate change including the threat to the country due to the rising sea levels and securing the finances to protect the country.

A large delegation from the Maldives will traveling to the conference including President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih who would be traveling to Scotland directly after his ongoing visit to Dubai.
