Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit.
The Turkish Foreign Minister is visiting the country on a two-day visit upon the invitation of the Maldivian Foreign Minister and the President of the UN General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid.
He was welcomed at Velana International Airport today upon arrival by Abdulla Shahid along with the senior officials of the Foreign Ministry.
On his visit, Minister Çavuşoğlu is set to meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed aside from the official talks with Foreign Minister Shahid.
The Maldivian Foreign Ministry said that after the official talks, important agreements would be signed between the two countries. However, no further information were offered by the Ministry in regards to the nature of the agreements.
Maldives and Turkey established bilateral ties on 28 May 1979.
