Prosecutor General's Office (PG Office) has said that they would not be appeal the High Court's ruling denying the request withhold the passport of the former Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed who is being tried for sexual assault and harassment.

Media Official of the PG Office, Public Prosecutor Ahmed Shafeeu confirmed to ONE Online today that they would not be seeking an appeal at the Supreme Court.

High Court rules against holding Ali Waheed's passport on Wednesday in the second case against him.

The initial request to hold the passport in question was filed at the Criminal Court and was denied before an appeal was made at the High Court. On 12 September, High Court made the ruling that they cannot grant the request to hold the passport of the former Tourism Minister. The PG Office had requested to hold a cancelled passport of Ali Waheed, the diplomatic passport he had when he was the Tourism Minister. However, after being removed from office, that passport is no longer valid from 11 August 2020, hence the request was denied.

And so, the PG Office made a request to hold Ali Waheed's ordinary passport on 19 September.

The Criminal Court denied the request stating that the form submitted by the PG Office.lacked evidence of an attempt to flea the country and that there was no use of such an order against someone currently out of the country which cannot be enforced.

The decision was then appealed at the High Court and on Wednesday, the court ruled supporting the initial decision by the Criminal Court.
