Sri Lanka’s state-run national carrier SriLankan Airlines is set to start operating flights to the Maldives from Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA).
This would become the first scheduled flights between the Maldives and Sri Lanka's northern airport.
Economy Next reported that according to the Director-Chief of Operations at Airport & Aviation Services, Shehan Sumanasekara, scheduled flight once a week will be flying to the Maldives starting from 14 October.
And the number of flights will be increased as the Mattala Airport is developed.
The Sri Lankan news outlet reported that with a scheduled one flight a week to Male', Maldives, SriLankan Airlines will also operate a domestic flight from Colombo to Mattala with more scheduled flights to be announced at a later date.
