Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem has said that the sexual harassment and abuse case against employees of the Tourism Ministry by the former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed is going to be pursued even if it means issuing Red Notice through the Interpol.
The state has brought forth seven counts of sexual assault against the former Tourism Minister. He left was allowed to leave the country for medical treatment while the court case was ongoing.
The Protector General's Office appealed the Criminal Court's decision to allow Ali Waheed to leave the country. However, the appeal has been unable to move forward since the state has been unable to provide the current address of the accused.
Speaking on the case last night on PSM's Raajje Miadhu program, PG Shameem said that when the High Court decided not to continue the appeal, the court did not meet the conditions required when the address of the accused had not been confirmed. And so, the case has now been appealed at the Supreme Court.
Shameem said that if Ali Waheed cannot be summoned because the summoning notice cannot be delivered with the address not being confirmed, they will push to continue the case even by issuing an Interpol Red Notice.
The Prosecutor General also said that he is confident that a solution would be provided on the matter by the Supreme Court. According to the current regulation, a decision has to be reached with a week if the Supreme Court decides to take the case.
