Office of the Attorney General filed a motion at Civil Court today, stating that 35 cases against MMPRC needs to be sent back for revision. The charges of corruption were filed against MMPRC in an effort to locate state finances and investigate corruption in the previous administration of President Yameen.
In a statement released today, the Attorney General's office said that they had initially submitted 39 charges of corruption against MMPRC to the Civil Court. AG office reports that there were charges of corruption in leasing or giving ownership of various land, islands and lagoons.
AG office reported that they submitted a motion to return 35 of the cases after further looking into the cases. The office said that the cases need to be revised and resubmitted with additional documents and said that the information surrounding this case had prompted this request at Civil Court.
The AG office reassured that they will be working closely with the Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery, Maldives Police Service as well as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to revise and resubmit the 35 cases.
