With the permission to reopen guesthouses in the Male’ Area since the COVID-19 lock down, a total of 15 guesthouses have been reopened in the Male’ Area today.
Since the Maldives reopened its borders on 15 July, it was announced on 7 December that guesthouse will be receiving permission to reopen in the Male’ Area.
An official from the Tourism Ministry told One Online that 15 guesthouses have been authorized to resume operations starting today and other guesthouses are applying for the permit to reopen.
Tourists visiting the Male’ area are also required to have a negative test result on the PCR test that is less than 72 hours old.
Under the guesthouse guidelines most recently announced by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), every guesthouse is required to have an isolation room and the employees must get tested once a month and check for symptoms every day.
While the guidelines does allow tourists visiting the Male’ area to travel to safari yachts and other islands and resorts, they are required a negative PCR test if they stay in the capital for more than 48 hours.
With the guesthouses being allowed to reopen in the islands since 15 October and now in the Male’ area, a total of 147 guesthouses are in operation at 26 islands that adds to 2,738 beds.
