Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that the tourists from South Asian countries visiting the Maldives are currently not allowed to visit inhabited islands or stay at the guesthouses in inhabited islands.
At a previous press conference, the Spokesperson of the President's Office, Mabrook Azeez said that South Asian tourists can visit the inhabited islands on Maldives starting from 31 July.
HPA today said that South Asian tourists can visit the Maldives starting from 15 July but they would not be allowed to visit inhabited islands or stay at guesthouses until HPA makes a decision.
However, tourists in transit at select guesthouses before departure is exempt from this regulation. HPA said that the regulations opening check-ins at guesthouses will be announced before 30 July.
Tourists visa for South Asian tourists were halted temporarily on 11 May 2021 due to high number of cases of COVID-19 in the region.
