Since the Maldives reopened its borders on 15 July 2020, over 190 guesthouses have reopened in the country.
Although the Maldives closed its borders on 27 March and reopened on 15 July, guesthouses were not authorized to reopened until 15 November. And the guesthouses in the Male’ Area were not authorized to opened un 14 December.
Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry show 193 guesthouses in operation at the end of yesterday that totals to 3,640 beds.
So far, the highest number of guesthouses have been opened in the Male’ Atoll with 88 guesthouses with a total of 2.026 beds. The second highest number of guesthouses have reopened in Alifu Alifu Atoll with 48 guesthouses totaling 656 beds.
As for individual islands, A.A. Thoddoo has 24 guesthouses open with 310 beds in operation while K. Maafushi has 18 guesthouses with 748 beds in operation. Male’ Area has 530 beds in operation from 19 guesthouse reopening.
Tourism Ministry statistics show 139 resorts/marina has been reopened with a total of 32,380 beds in operation. And three more resorts are set to reopen at the end of the year adding another 412 beds to operation, according to the Ministry.
