At the start of today’s Parliament sitting, the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed, has said that he is going agenda the No Confidence Motion against the Home Minister, Imran Abdulla after the debate on the Annual State Budget for 2021.

The No Confidence Motion against the Home Minister was filed by the opposition coalition of PPM and PNC on 26 October 2020 and the Home Minister was given a 14-day notice as per the regulation.

Starting the budget debate today, the Speaker of the Parliament said that the General Committee has decided to give two hours for the No Confidence debate.

Before the debate begins, the Home Minister will have two minutes to speak in his defence and ten minutes in the middle of the debate and ten minutes at the conclusion.

After filing the motion, the Vice President of PPM and MP for Naifaru constituency, Ahmed Shiyam said that the case was filed with the signatures of 11 MPs. He said that the opposition have nine MPs at the parliament and two independence MPs, MP for Thulusdhoo constituency, Ibrahim Naseem and the MP for Vilimale’ constituency, Ahmed Ushaam also signed the motion.

A minimum of ten signatures from MPs are required to file a No Confidence Motion against a Minister of the Government.

MP Shiyam said that the motion was filed after the Home Minister violated Articles 32 and 98 of the Constitution and accused Minister Imran of lying at the parliament.
