A fire incident has occurred at a ten-story building on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Henveiru district, across from the King Salman Mosque in Male’ City.

While the MNDF said that they are evacuating the nearby buildings, Journalists of One Online at the scene reports that the fire is at the Riverside Café next to the building that houses the offices of Ooredoo Maldives and the State Bank of India.

A large number of firetrucks are at the scene continuing the efforts to control the fire. The fire has affected the top floors of the nearby Ooredoo and SBI building.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has took to Twitter stating that they monitoring the fire incident situation in Male’ City.

Health Ministry has advised the public to stay away from the area of the fire incident. The advisory said that the smoke could be dangerous to the elderly, children and people with respiratory conditions and advised the residents in the area to keep the doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from going into houses.

While the adjacent buildings have been evacuated, the fire has spread to the Money Exchange next to the café along with the SBI building.

Maldives Red Crescent said that their ERT members are on site to provide support to the fire response and advises the public to avoid the area to ensure the first reponders have the space to carry out their work.

Meanwhile, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has said that the rescue and firefighting team from Velana International is set to assist the MNDF to control the fire.

Defence Minister, Mariya Ahmed Didi has arrived at the scene and said that efforts are being made both inside and outside the building to control the fire.

She also said that Kalaafaanu School is being prepared to accommodate those affected by the fire.

MNDF has assured that no one was injured in the fire incident so far and the surrounding buildings have been evacuated and the fire has been largely controlled.

Information Officer of MNDF, Major Ibrahim Azim has said that there have been no reports of any injuries due to the fire incident tonight and the fire has been controlled.

Home Minister, Imran Abdulla has visited scene of the fire.

CEO of NDMA, Hisaan Hassan said that there is no one in their care in connection to the fire. Hisaan said that the people evacuated from the houses are now a bit further away from the scene and the NDMA would be ensure accommodation to them.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Imran has said the fire investigation has begun.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has visited the scene of the fire. While the President is visiting the scene of the fire, Vice President, Faisal Naseem is at the scene as well.

President Solih said that 95 percent of the fire has been controlled and no injuries have been reported so far. He said that taking the streets in protest during situation such would not be the actions of someone who wishes well to the country.

The President thanked the MNDF, Maldives Police Service and the Fire and Rescue team of the airport for their efforts in controlling the fire.
