A person has been injured in Haa Dhaalu Atoll Vaikaradhoo after turning on a stove while there was a gas leak.
President of the Vaikaradhoo Island Council, Ibrahim Zaamir told ONE Online today that an English language teacher at the Atoll School on the island was injured at a fire incident in the kitchen of his residence on the island.
The Council President said that the teacher is an Indian national.
Zaamir said that the fire incident took place this morning while the teacher was trying to turn off the gas after he smelled because he left it on after cooking the previous night.
he said that when he arrived at the scene, the teacher had been taken to the hospital with fire injuries to his arm and face and the door of the kitchen had been blown off but there was no burn marks inside the kitchen. And MNDF officers visited the scene and deduced that turning on a stove with a gas leak could bring up a flame that burns out but catch fire to a person standing in it.
An official from the Vaikaradhoo Health Center told ONE Online that a foreigner was bought in with injuries from a fire and since had been transferred to the hospital in Kulhudhuffushi City.
While no further details on the incident are available at this time, the Managing Director of Kulhudhuffushi Hospital, Ahmed Dhaaoodh has confirmed.to ONE Online that a burn victim from Vaikaradhoo was brought in today.
