MNDF has said that the fire that started at the Maakilhi at Hithadhoo, Addu City, yesterday evening was controlled last night.
The fire yesterday spread to a large area and the MNDF said that the fire was completely extinguished at 4 a.m. this morning. And so, the fire took over 12 hours to be controlled and the area is still being monitored.
Addu City Mayor, Ali Niyaz, told ONE Online last night that the cause of the fire is unclear and with a large portion of a 12-hectare land engulfed, an evacuation of the area was advised.
However, MP for Mid-Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Shuaau told ONE Online today that the people living in the area near the fire were not evacuated after they got assistance from the Fire Team at the Airport to control the fire.
He said that the fire was controlled once the Airport Fire Team started providing assistance.
And while the connected islands of Addu City lost electricity last night, MNDF said that it is not related to the fire incident.
MP Shuaau said that the electrical black out was caused due to an issue with a generator and power was restored fairly quickly.
