A decision has been made to resume the teaching of Grades 7 and 8 at the schools in Male’ Area on 16 August 2020.

Education Ministry issued a statement saying that teaching of Key Stage 3 (Grades 7 and 8) in the Male’ Area schools are set to resume next month.

Schools reopened across the country on 1 July with numerous safety precautions under the new normal. While the schools in Male’ Area began classes for students in Grade 9 and above, normal classes resumed in the rest of the country.

Under the new normal, students are required to wear face masks to school, physical distancing is being practiced at all times. As part of the effort, the number of students in each class has been reduced as well.

However, some teachers and students in the Male’ area have tested positive for COVID-19 with one the recent cases being that of two teachers at Rehendhi School in Hulhumale’ while the Principal of Huravee School along with an employ at Dharumavantha School has been tested positive as well.

Spokesperson of the Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC), Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that despite these cases, they have not spread to a school cluster.

She said that based on the number of cases in the city, every school and office have a chance of someone carrying the disease in from outside and so the safety precautions are very important.
