Parents of the students at Has Alifu Atoll Filladhoo has held a demonstration locking the Filladhoo School gate today to express their concern that the school has not had a Principal for the past three years.

Vice President of the Filladhoo Island Council, Mohamed Razeef told ONE Online today that the complaint from the parents is that a Principal has not been assigned to the school in the past three years but two people being interviewed for the position in December 2021.

Councilman Razeef said that announcements were made before, in August 2021, as well to appoint a Principal but no locals had applied for the position.

Interviews were held on 11 December 2021, according to Councilman Razeef and the Education Ministry has informed this morning that the delays are caused because there are regulations to follow and completed by the Civil Service Commission.

He said that after the parents locked the school Police officer that arrived from H.A. Dhidhoo has broken the lock and reopened the school. And the parents have taken the students away.

Filladhoo School has about 138 students. When ONE Online contact the Education Ministry for a comment on why the school has not had a Principal for so long, an official from the Ministry said that the school has now been opened and any further information can be given after checking the information. Later attempts to contact for comment has been unsuccessful as they are not answering the phone.
