Former President, Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said if the former President Mohamed Nasheed had consulted him before resigning from office on 7 February 2012, he would have resigned with him.

Speaking on Avas Online’ “Fashaairu” program, former President Waheed said that the former President Nasheed resigned without consulting him.

President Waheed said that instead of consulting, the former President Nasheed attempted to do things by himself.

Former President Waheed said that even when some members of his cabinet had resigned, Nasheed did not ask him to resign and still had a good relationship at the time and did not have any disagreements.

Dr. Waheed said that those who say that the Vice President has to resign when his President resign does not know a Presidential system of governing.

Following President Nasheed’s resignation, his Vice President, Dr. Waheed was sworn into office and conducted an independent investigation of how the government was changed and released a report of the accounts. A report that was initially accepted by President Nasheed as well.

However, former President Nasheed later said that he was overthrown with a coup d'etat and does not agree with the report. Since then, former President Nasheed has repeatedly accuses numerous people of being involved in the coup against him.
