The President’s Office has ordered government employees to stay indoors and not go outside unless absolutely necessary.
A statement issued by the President’s Office said that the decision was made to implement social distancing since main purpose of the week-long government break is to control spread of COVID-19 Corona Virus.
Since the global pandemic has reached the Maldives as well, the government has decided to take special measures to control the spread of the disease. And the President’s Office said that along with those measures, the following state institutes have been ordered provide the continual, essential services without interruption.
They are:
- Health Centers and Pharmacies
- Water, Electricity and Sewerage
- Broadcasting service
- Phone and Internet services
- Banking services
- Fuel and Cooking gas
- Air Travel and Harbors
- Customs, Immigration and Aviation Command
- Police and Military
- Fire and Rescue services
- Judiciary services
- Foreign Relations
- Social Protection services
- Prison services
- Island and city cleaning
- Weather services
- Care of the people in the protection of the state
President’s Office said that only the employees needed to implement the regulations set by the Director General of Health under the National Health Emergency declared under the General Health Protection Act are to be brought in for work.
