The deadline to appoint a member to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has expired. ACC regulations state that of a member resigns, a new member has to be appointed within 60 days.

A member of the ACC first resigned on 2 December 2021. That was member Ali Ashraf. Yesterday marked 60 days from his resignation.

Following his resignation, the President's Office opened applications for the position on 5 December 2021. And then on 16 January 2022, application period was extended to 31 January.

The law requires five members to be on the ACC. However, the ACC that decodes on the cases to investigate, currently remains vacant.

When the Parliament was on break, the Parliament Committee for Independent Institutes decided to dismiss all members of the ACC stating that a performance audit by the Audit Office show that the work at the ACC is not progressing at the best speed. And when that case was sent to the parliament floor, all the members of the ACC resigned from office.
