The former President of the Elections Commission (EC), Fuad Thaufeeq has been appointed as a member of the EC by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih along with Colonel-retired Ahmed Jihaad to the National Integrity Commission (NIC).

President’s Office said that the Oath of Office were taken in the presence of Supreme Court Justice Mahaz Ali Zahir.

Thaufeeq served in EC as a member from September 2008 to September 2009, following which he served as the Chairman of the Commission till March 2014. He joined public service in February 1973 and has since served extensively in the Ministry of National Planning and Development and last served as the Assistant Director-General up until July 2007.

President Solih’s appointment to the NIC, Colonel (Retired) Ahmed Jihaad, is a decorated serviceman in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). He joined the military service in 1982 and served in various ranks till 2013. His last posting was as the Deputy Search Coordinator at the Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordinating Center
