National Disaster Management (NDM) has advised the public to take precautions and stay vigilant in regards to the rainstorm currently affecting a large portion of the country.
In press statement issued today, NDM said that heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across the country for the next 24 hours according the MET Office with winds between 45-50 mph.
And so, the NDM advises precautions against flooding with sandbags and prevent damage to property during strong winds by securing them along with securing the roofs and disconnecting electronics when not in use.
Sea travelers are advised to take the weather forecasts into account and ensure all safety and communication equipment are in working order before starting the journey.
NDM has advised to give special attention to these things on a local island level.
