The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged businesses and institutions across the Maldives to take precautionary measures as El Niño intensifies, with its strongest impact on the country expected in November.

The Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts the most significant effects in November, while the World Meteorological Organization expects El Niño conditions to continue until February next year.

NDMA has called on all sectors to assess potential risks and strengthen preparations based on weather forecasts. It also urged businesses to review business continuity plans and ensure essential services, including food supplies and healthcare, can continue during hazardous weather.

The authority has issued guidance outlining practical measures for businesses and urged companies of all sizes to review the recommendations and take necessary precautions.
