President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that construction of two parking buildings in the Greater Malé area will begin this year as part of the government's efforts to address traffic congestion and parking shortages.

Speaking in the fourth episode of the President’s Office podcast The Pulse, the President said traffic and vehicle congestion in Malé require long-term solutions rather than temporary measures. He noted that the modernisation of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is nearing completion and is expected to open to the public next week, significantly easing traffic on the city's inner roads.

The President said plans to build parking buildings were initially intended to be implemented with foreign assistance, but the project had been delayed. He added that the government has now decided to finance the construction of the two facilities itself, with work set to commence this year.

He said the new parking buildings, together with others already under development, will help address the shortage of parking spaces in Malé.

The President also noted that the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment includes dedicated parking areas, which will further improve parking availability in the capital.
