Qatar has said no high-level meeting between the United States and Iran is scheduled in Doha, despite the arrival of senior US envoys in the Qatari capital.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said technical discussions on issues including regional security would take place this week and could later be elevated to senior-level talks.
The US delegation, including presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, arrived in Doha following renewed exchanges of fire that tested a June 17 interim agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at negotiating a permanent truce.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said discussions with Qatar on implementing the interim agreement, including the release of frozen Iranian assets, were expected to take place on Wednesday. However, he said no meetings with the US had been scheduled.
The conflict has disrupted global trade, affected oil shipments through the region and caused thousands of deaths, mainly in Iran and Lebanon. Oil prices have eased in recent days as tensions have de-escalated, although the UN has warned that vulnerable economies could still face higher food and fuel costs.
