Dr Abdulla Khaleel, the Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, has said that Maldivian airspace has not been used in airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran.

Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, the minister said the government has rejected requests that could involve the use of Maldivian airspace for military attacks. He emphasized that protecting the country’s economy and maintaining peace remain top priorities for the government.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has also called for measures to address potential challenges the conflict could pose to the Maldives.

Minister Dr Khaleel said the government is working with neighboring countries to ensure the continued supply of food and fuel despite the war. Efforts are also underway to diversify oil sources to strengthen long-term energy security.

In addition, the government is taking steps to increase national food storage capacity as part of broader efforts to ensure food security.
