Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has imported a new stock of MVR 100 banknotes from the Ran Dhihafaheh currency series to address a shortage of the denomination.
In a statement, MMA said the reprinted MVR 100 notes will circulate alongside the existing banknotes currently in use. The authority noted that a similar step was taken last year after limited availability of the MVR 100 notes.
The Ran Dhihafaheh banknote series was introduced in January 2016 as part of efforts to modernise Maldivian currency. According to MMA, the series features improved designs and enhanced security measures to increase durability, ease of handling, and protection against counterfeiting.
MMA highlighted that the banknotes include ultraviolet security features, where the serial number and selected elements become visible under ultraviolet light while remaining invisible under normal lighting conditions.
