Mohamed Latheef, President of Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM), has stated that the champion team of the CAVA Men's Club Champions League, which starts today in the Maldives, will qualify for the AVC Champions League, Asia's biggest club tournament.
As the CAVA Men's Club Championship begins in the Maldives today, clubs from six countries will compete. These include two Maldivian clubs, Club HDC and Maldives National Defence Force Club, along with Zaic VC from Kazakhstan, Bishkek from Kyrgyzstan, Help Nepal Sports Club from Nepal, and Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the champion from Sri Lanka.
The tournament will proceed in a round-robin format. After the league round, clubs will be ranked, and ranking matches will be played, with the final scheduled for the 23rd of this month.
In a press conference held yesterday regarding the tournament preparations, VAM and CAVA President Latheef said that this tournament is special because the champion of this tournament held in the Maldives will advance to the AVC Championship, which qualifies Asian teams for the world's highest-level club volleyball tournament.
"One of the reasons why this tournament is important is that it paves the way for qualification to the FIVB World Championship. The champion team of the CAVA Champions League held in the Maldives qualifies for the AVC Champions League. The team that wins the AVC Champions League qualifies for the FIVB World Championship. So this shows the importance of this tournament," Latheef highlighted.
The CAVA Champions League starts today at 1:00 PM at the Social Center indoor court, with with Kazakhstan's Zaic facing Sri Lanka Port Authority in the first match. Later at 4:30 PM, HDC will face Bishkek.
The ticket price for the matches is MVR 20.
