Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has stated that the goal is to make Island Aviation a profitable company within the next one to two years.

The Minister made this statement while speaking at the opening ceremony of Maldivian's new Engineering Service Building yesterday.

At the ceremony, the Minister said that the opening of the new Engineering Service Building at Velana International Airport will ease the costs associated with Maldivian's maintenance and similar activities. He added that the new building will also enhance safety and security.

Highlighting that Maldivian provides maintenance services to many airlines coming to the Maldives, the Minister said this service facility will greatly ease that process as well.

"The hope is that within the next one or two years, Island Aviation will rapidly progress and become a company that can move forward with its own capacity. When it changes this way, it will be better for the staff too," the Minister said.

Maldivian's new Engineering Service Building has been opened as the "Ali Firag Engineering Service Building," named after the late Ali Firag who worked in the company's Engineering Department for many years.
