The Managing Director of Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), Hamdhaan Shakeel, said today that the company is working on the necessary preparations to start constructing 13,000 housing units in the Male' area.
To carry out these projects, FDC has signed framework agreements with three foreign companies.
In an interview with the state media PSM, Hamdhaan said that they are currently working on securing financing for the social housing units to be built in the Male' area, and that these projects are being carried out through loans from various foreign financing agencies.
"We will submit proposals to the government for approval to proceed with these projects within two months. The projects will be inaugurated within the next four months. We are ready to carry out such projects in any island that needs social housing," Hamdhaan said.
The only project FDC is currently undertaking is the development of 4000 housing units in the second phase of Hulhumale'.
FDC is a company established in 2019 to run social housing projects.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced plans to construct more than 27,000 housing units in Male' and the islands during a ceremony held at the Social Center to mark the government's first anniversary.
According to the President, construction of 15,000 housing units in the Male' area and 12,940 housing units in 41 islands in the atolls will begin next year, and these will be completed and handed over within this term.
