Agriculture and Animal Welfare Minister Dr Aishath Rameela has resigned due to health reasons.
In a press release issued today, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that he has accepted her resignation.
The President expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Dr Rameela's contributions as a minister, particularly her efforts to uphold the rule of law in the Maldives and to support state administration in a manner that fosters prosperity for all citizens. Dr Ramila has been battling a serious health condition. Despite her diagnosis, she assumed office as a minister and continued her treatment. She first disclosed her condition in a Facebook post on 29 November.
After taking office in late November last year, Dr Ramila travelled abroad for cancer treatment but returned to the Maldives and resumed her duties in early February.
Prior to her ministerial role, Dr Rameela served as the Minister of State for Health and Family.
