Speaker of the Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has announced plans to extend the current parliamentary session until December 15. The decision, he said, would be subject to a vote during today's parliamentary proceedings.

In his address, the Speaker explained that, as per parliamentary regulations, the third and final session of the year is scheduled to continue until November 30. However, it was previously agreed to extend the current session until December 15 to address pressing legislative priorities.

The Speaker emphasised that significant work remains, including the review and approval of crucial bills. He highlighted that several important bills have already been introduced during the ongoing session and that additional key proposals are expected to be tabled in the coming two weeks.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also noted the importance of these legislative efforts in a recent statement, underscoring their role in shaping the nation’s policies.

The final decision on extending the session will be determined through the parliamentary vote later today.
