The Foreign Relations Committee has approved the appointment of former Elections Commission President Fuad Thaufeeq as the Maldives Ambassador to Thailand.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sent a letter to the Parliament yesterday seeking approval for Fuad's appointment as Ambassador. After the Parliament's Secretary-General read the letter in the chamber, the Speaker referred the matter to the Foreign Relations Committee for further review.
The committee's report will now be sent to the Parliament floor to determine if there is approval for Fuad's appointment.
With the new constitution in 2008, Fuad joined the Elections Commission as a member and worked there for one year. In 2009, he was appointed as the President of the Commission.
From that year until March 2014, Fuad served as the President of the Commission before leaving. He rejoined the Commission for a second time in 2019.
