Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has stated that the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) will open in July next year.
While providing information about the company's plans to improve its financial situation and details of the loans taken by the company to the Sub-Committee of the State-Owned Enterprises Committee of the People's Majlis, MACL's Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed Shareef said today that 80 percent of the new terminal's work has now been completed.
He said that the terminal work is progressing very quickly, even faster than scheduled, and MACL has not done anything to delay the work.
"The work has not been delayed because of us, and it will not happen in the future either. Even today, there are meetings scheduled with those parties to finalize necessary matters," Shareef said.
"As of today, we have achieved 82 percent, approximately 85 percent. This means that we are progressing with the work in line with the schedule," he added.
Shareef said that if the work continues at the current pace, the terminal will open in June or July next year. He also said that part of the terminal might open by the end of this year, as previously stated by the government.
