The Maldives has been named the ‘World’s Leading Destination’ for the fifth consecutive year at the 31st annual World Travel Awards 2024, held in Madeira, Portugal.

Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal accepted the prestigious award alongside the CEO and Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Ibrahim Shiuree.

Minister Faisal expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking all industry stakeholders and sharing his pride in receiving this recognition on behalf of the country's tourism sector. The Ministry of Tourism also praised the achievement, noting it is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of the entire industry.

The Maldives triumphed over 18 other countries, including Australia, Canada, Greece, India, Mexico, the USA, and Spain, among others.

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honours in the travel, hospitality, and tourism sectors, celebrating outstanding achievements across the industry.
