The Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions has approved the dismissal of five members of key commissions, including Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Vice President Abdul Salam and Election Commission (EC) Vice President Ali Nashath, over allegations of misconduct.

The decision includes the removal of ACC members Abdul Salam, Thoha Mohamed, and Dr Mohamed Asif, as well as EC Vice President Ali Nashath. The committee had earlier recommended the dismissal of Mohamed Zahir from ACC.

The issue was returned to the standing committee for further review after being discussed in Parliament. Following a secret meeting held on Monday, the committee confirmed the decision to remove the five members while retaining Civil Service Commission (CSC) President Mohamed Nasih.

The matter will now move forward as per parliamentary procedures.
