The project to develop the roads of Male' and Vilimale' to modern standards has begun.
Upgrading Male's roads to modern standards and solving the congestion problem was a presidential pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the 2023 presidential election.
The purpose of this project is to upgrade the deteriorating condition of roads in Male' and Vilimale' to modern standards, bringing significant benefits to the citizens.
The ministry said today that after a series of meetings with important stakeholders, an expert team assembled by the Chinese government has completed the work of assessing the road conditions.
During this period, the team conducted a feasibility study of the roads in Male' and Vilimale' along with the ministry's technical team. The Chinese expert team carried out this work from the 3rd to the 21st of this month, according to the ministry.
The Construction Ministry said that the next phase is the design stage of the project.
The Chinese expert team arrived in the Maldives on the 3rd of this month to conduct a feasibility study for the development of all roads in Male' and Vilimale'.
In a media statement given after concluding his first official trip to China last January, after assuming office, the President said that the largest expenditure from the USD 130 million grant aid from China is planned for the road construction project in Male'.
