Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is the leader who works most steadfastly for Palestine's rights.

In an interview given to the state media PSM on the occasion of the government's first anniversary, President Waheed said that the work being done by the Maldivian government to stop the genocide in Palestine through its foreign policy is very noteworthy.

"The speech given by President Dr. Muizzu at the recent Arab and Islamic leaders' summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is the strongest and most steadfast speech given by any country's president on the Palestinian issue in recent times," Waheed said.

President Waheed said he happily notes that the government has sent a strong team of lawyers to support the case filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Waheed said that the uncivilized, cruel, and shameless acts carried out by Israel in Palestine with the help of some major Western countries are the biggest crime committed in the past 100 years.

"I thank President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for feeling the sorrow, pain, and distress boiling in the hearts of the Maldivian people and expressing it steadfastly in every speech he gives," Waheed said.

During his trip to Saudi Arabia this month, President Muizzu said at the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit that Israel's brutal colonialism and ongoing genocide have caused unimaginable death, destruction, and suffering.

He stated that in just the past year alone, approximately 50,000 people in Palestine and thousands more in Lebanon have died.

"We cannot sit by idly. Our statements, our condemnations do not bring much change. Those in power have not taken the necessary steps. The actions of powerful countries show that they do not recognize that the lives of Palestinians are as valuable as those of other humans," he said.

The President said that the silence and inaction of these countries facilitate the continuation of Israel's brutal colonialism and that the international community, especially those with significant political and economic influence, has failed the Palestinian people.

He also said that by not taking meaningful steps in the Security Council, allowing war crimes to continue without punishment, and paving the way for the use of weapons for this genocide, opportunities are being created for this to continue."
