The President's Office has announced the application process for two upcoming vacancies in the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom). Current BroadCom President Mariyam Waheeda and member Ali Yusuf, whose terms will end on May 5, have also applied for reappointment.

The application period runs until 12:00 pm on May 26, 2024. Interested candidates can download the application form from the President's Office website and submit it in person from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm on weekdays, excluding official holidays.

Applicants for BroadCom membership:

  • Must be a Muslim and a Maldivian citizen.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Must not have been convicted of an offence or fraud in the last five years as per Islamic principles.
  • Cannot hold a position elected or appointed under the Constitution or other laws of the Maldives.
  • Must not be employed in the civil service or by any government or state-owned company.
  • Cannot have financial interests in communication or broadcasting sectors.

The BroadCom plays a crucial role in overseeing the Maldives’ broadcasting sector, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting ethical media practices.
