President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has raised concerns about irregularities in the previous government’s flat allocation process under its landlord scheme, alleging misuse of marks to favour politicians and influential individuals.
Speaking at the Hafthaa 52 celebration at the Social Centre, the President revealed that flats were distributed to some individuals based on minimal documentation, such as ID cards alone, and to multiple members of the same families connected to senior officials of the previous administration.
Dr Muizzu stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and government committees have flagged issues with the allocation process. He pledged that his government would release a transparent list detailing why each applicant was selected or not, ensuring fairness.
The President also highlighted allegations that marks were altered on the system’s backend to benefit specific individuals. He reassured the public that the investigation would uncover and rectify these issues.
The Housing Ministry has postponed releasing the updated list of flat recipients, citing the need for additional time to address complaints and ensure the process is transparent.
