President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has launched National Identity Card (NID) and passport services for all Maldivian atolls, marking a significant step towards decentralised service delivery. The inauguration ceremony was held at the President’s Office today.
The initiative expands the scope of services to include all of Malé City as well as Laamu and Dhaalu Atolls. Passport services have also been launched in Hulhumalé Phase 1, Phase 2, Vilimalé, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, and L. Fonadhoo.
A roadmap was presented during the ceremony, outlining a phased plan to establish NID and passport services across every atoll by the end of 2025. Key milestones include:
- February 2025: HDh. Makunudhoo
- March 2025: GDh. Thinadhoo, GDh. Gahdhoo
- April 2025: S. Hithadhoo, S. Hulhumeedhoo, Gn. Fuvahmulah
- May 2025: HA. Dhidhoo, HA. Ihavandhoo, R. Ungoofaaru, R. Alifushi
- June 2025: L. Fonadhoo, Sh. Funadhoo, Sh. Milandhoo
- July 2025: N. Velidhoo, Th. Veymandoo
- August 2025: ADh. Mahibadhoo, B. Dharavandhoo
- September 2025: Lh. Naifaru, F. Nilandhoo
- October 2025: M. Muli, AA. Rasdhoo
- November 2025: V. Felidhoo, K. Thulhusdhoo, K. Guraidhoo
The government plans to ensure accessible basic services to the citizens through decentralisation.
