President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that politicians who obstruct government efforts to uplift the underprivileged will soon be recognised by the public.
In a post on X, he affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring fair prosperity for all, emphasising that it would remain focused on the people's welfare.
President's post comes in the wake of major tourism companies in the Maldives, including Universal Enterprises and Mahujan Champa Mohamed Moosa, expressing opposition to the new 'Money Changing Business Regulations' set by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), saying they won’t adopt the official dollar rate. These rules, effective from October 1, mandate that resorts must reserve USD 500 for each tourist and guesthouses USD 25 per guest.
MMA confirmed that 173 of 174 resorts are registered under the regulations, without revealing the one unregistered property.
