One Media Group Chairman Minha Faiz Rashad (Minnu) and former Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef have been named in the WIM Global Top 50 awards.
Minnu received the award in the category of Career Leadership - Media, Brand Management and Digital at a ceremony held at the Sheraton Hotel in Malaysia yesterday. She has also been awarded the Rehendhi Award in 2020 and has been working in the media industry for 14 years.
Minnu also spent nine years at Sun Media Group, one of the largest private medias in the Maldives, where she served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
As one of the founders, Minnu launched One Online in 2018. One Online is currently published in both Dhivehi and English and employs 25 employees.
Minnu is also a board member of the UNESCO Swan Project, a mega project for SAARC countries called Building a Gendered Media in South Asia. Minnu also served as a member of the steering committee of the “Covid huttuvaany aharen” national campaign launched by the Maldivian media to raise awareness about the disease. Minnu is also the President of Women in Management Maldives, which was launched in 2017.
Former Minister of Gender, Family and Social Security Shidhatha received the award in the category of ‘Woman with a Cause’. Managing Director of the Institute for Counseling and Physiotherapy (ICP), she began her public service work as a disability rights advocate.
She also played an important role in the Care Society and played an important role in drafting the Disability Act. Shidhatha is also playing important roles in politics and has previously served as a council member of Adhaalath Party. She is currently the Vice President and Spokesperson of the Maldives National Party (MNP).
Shidhatha has received many awards in the fields of human rights and women's empowerment. She has also represented many national level boards.
This is the 14th year that the WIM Global Top 50 is being held. 296 entries were received for this year's award, of which 50 from 26 countries received the award. Judges from 11 countries judged the award. These include Africa, Sri Lanka, Maldives, the United States, Malaysia and the UK.
