Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan announced plans to amend laws to better deter crime and prevent repeat offenders from reentering society without consequences.

His remarks followed a police raid in Hulhumale’ Phase II, where authorities rescued an individual detained in a flat and arrested 12 individuals, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement measures.

Minister Ihsan highlighted that current laws often favour offenders, making it challenging for police to retain repeat offenders.

"The biggest step towards addressing the current crime environment is reforming laws so they discourage crime and protect communities,” Ihsan stated.

In addition to tightening laws, the Minister announced plans to enhance security in the Hiyaa flats area and explore options for reclaiming properties associated with recurring criminal activity.
