President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated a large-scale project aimed at establishing fuel storage facilities in every atoll of the Maldives.
The project is designed to enhance fuel accessibility, especially for local fishermen and the general public, by providing fuel at base rates through the State Trading Organisation (STO).
Shimad Ibrahim, the Managing Director of STO, revealed that the project aims to complete fuel storage installations across all atolls by February 2026. The first fuel setup, located in Hulhumale’, was completed in January 2024, marking a significant milestone in the project. Shimad noted that fuel storage facilities will be set up in 19 islands under this initiative.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, along with other senior government officials.
