The Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to seek information regarding the non-payment of rent to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

The decision was made during a committee meeting yesterday, following a proposal submitted by Hithadhoo MP Ahmed Azaan Marzoog.

MP Azaan raised concerns about several establishments failing to pay their rent to HDC without facing any repercussions. He emphasised the need for the committee to investigate these cases and gather more information on the matter. The proposal was seconded by Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau.

During the meeting, opposition Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa suggested that the committee should also look into commercial lands, unpaid flats, and other revenue sources for HDC, to fully understand the corporation's financial situation. Despite this, the committee ultimately approved Azan’s original proposal to begin the inquiry into unpaid rent.
