Government has begun preparations to begin production of ID Cards in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo.
The Home Ministry said today that it is the second island in the province to start offering ID card printing services.
Previously, the service was provided at the Department of National Registration (DNR) office in Velanaage at Male City as well as Gaafu Alif Villingilli. The service will be launched in Kudahuvadhoo early tomorrow, with the assistance of the Atoll Council. The service will be inaugurated by Home Minister Ali Ihsan.
The provision of this service in all inhabited atolls of the country is a presidential pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. While the ID card service is expensive, the Home Ministry is working to provide the necessary machinery as it becomes available.
The Identity Card Unit started in 1984 to collect and manage the information of the people living in the maldives. The office was renamed the Department of National Registration on 11 November 1993.
The DNR has set up 174 collection centers and the first online ID card process was launched in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous online portal was replaced by a DNR online portal in March last year. After printing the card, the DNR introduced a service to send the card to the council of the island where the person is located.
