President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the Special Boat Squadron (SBS), an elite Coast Guard unit designed to respond to critical maritime threats.

This new unit, introduced at a ceremony in Republic Square, is part of the Maldives National Defence Force’s (MNDF) ongoing efforts to fortify national security and protect Maldivian waters against rising maritime challenges.

The SBS is specially trained and equipped to manage high-stakes operations at sea, including responses to underwater explosions, piracy, armed robbery, terrorism, drug trafficking, and illegal fishing. According to the MNDF, this elite squadron will ensure swift, effective responses to incidents, enhancing the safety and sovereignty of Maldivian waters.
