A man accused of attempting to steal from an electrical transformer in Hulhumale’ Phase II has been remanded in police custody for 30 days. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Ahmed Risfan of Maalheendhoo in Green Atoll, was apprehended early on May 27 around 5:30 a.m., near Hiyaa 13 Flat.

Following his arrest, the court ruled to detain Risfan for 30 days while police continue their investigation. Authorities are looking closely into this case amid a rise in similar incidents, with several transformer theft attempts reported earlier this year.

In one notable incident in March, an individual attempting to steal from a transformer tragically died from electrocution. Police are ramping up efforts to address this recurring issue and ensure the safety of public infrastructure in the area.
